Maxwell's Demon by Megan Mackie is a sci-fi children's book that follows the adventures of two unlikely friends. Pavlov, a dog, always thought he was a good boy who obeyed the professor's rules and happily took part in his experiments. But his life turns upside down when he comes across Schrodinger the cat, who seems to be in two places at once. Schrodinger struggles to put pieces of her life together and wonders if she even exists. The two find themselves unexpectedly allied to find the mysterious Maxwell's demon that may provide the answers they seek. Forming an unexpected bond, Schrodinger and Pavlov embark on an epic adventure in the Library and Museum of Scientific Magic and Philosophy, coming across a furry white cat with unknown loyalties, a time-traveling portal, a doppelganger, and humans with plans of their own.
With a seamless blend of fantasy and sci-fi, Megan Mackie takes readers on a wild rollercoaster of a ride you don't want to end. Maxwell's Demon is full of heart, humor, mystery, and a ton of fun. Mackie's adventure tale features a few historical personalities who made their names in science and philosophy, and the author seamlessly incorporates them into a plot that is action-packed and completely unpredictable. The story revolves around an unlikely friendship between a cat and a dog. Schrodinger and Pavlov have opposing personalities, creating conflict that adds to the drama and makes for some hilarious conversations. I also liked the character of Roger Bacon. Overall, an entertaining sci-fi yarn for kids and young adults.
