The author of Marco & Me, John Marfia, Jr. (Johnny Marfia), started his career as a math teacher and coach. He is a graduate of Easton Area High School and Wilkes University. Actively involved in collegiate athletics, coaching, and based upon his distinguished athletic record, exemplary character, and significant contributions, he went on to be inducted into two halls of fame. He later entered the corporate world and was employed in the information technology sector for a Fortune 500 company where he also excelled.
Upon his retirement, John and his wife, MaryAnn, became puppy parents for the first time … specifically, puppy parents to Marco, a loving Pomeranian. As a devoted and doting puppy daddy, John never anticipated the impact that Marco's arrival would have on their lives, which culminated in Marco being the focus of their love and attention. Marco has brought an unparalleled appreciation for the simple joys in life, and his brightness shines strong amidst unsettling times during the pandemic and sometimes divisive society.
Marco motivated John to become a children's author to share positivity with young readers through Marco's photos and his short stories. Marco & Me: Adventures of Marco, a Lovable and Real Dog by Johnny Marfia is a cute series about a fluffy Pomeranian named Marco. Marco is very interactive and talks to the readers in simple, easy-to-understand words. He becomes friends with the readers and takes them into his world. Marco is renowned for his stylish bow ties throughout the book, which makes him stand out with his unique style choices, from full-colored ties to strip ties to decorative ties and an entire assortment of ties. Marco takes us on many fun adventures, such as introducing his grooming habits, having a special nickname, playing hide-n-go-seek, and much more!
Marco is unique because he is not just a fictional character you see in most books but a real-life dog owned by Johnny Marfia. The readers feel like they know Marco as he speaks in an engaging, friendly manner. The photographs of Marco are cute and help draw the young readers’ attention. I especially like that at the end of each chapter are fun, interactive, age-appropriate activities that educate and entertain. These activities also reinforce what was read to quiz them on their comprehension of Marco’s many adventures. Marco & Me will captivate young audiences and adult readers with Marco's charm and his bow ties!
