Manifestation is a work of fiction in the horror and thriller sub-genres and serves as the second book in the Black Spiral series. It is aimed at mature readers owing to the presence of graphic violence and moderate sexual scenes in the work and was penned by author Rob Tucker. The book follows Leon Saffulo, an FBI profiler, as he investigates a series of events with the aid of retired magician Maximilian Schultz. Unbeknownst to Leon, he is facing both the destructive force of Simonetta and Bernadette: a Wall Street insider who has a distorted sense of vigilante justice in mind. Together the two make a formidable pair able to transcend our world and our sense of morality.
Manifestation offers a very interesting and engaging concept with the idea of a digital world alongside our own, and the new world this opens up for both criminal enterprise and investigation. Author Rob Tucker playfully alludes to the idea throughout that sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic itself, with the character of Maximilian Schultz who understands the line between the two. The horror elements of the story are strongly showcased, and the author is skilled at building up psychological suspense and then releasing it when the tension gets too high to bear. The characters embroiled in this adventure are well-rounded and three-dimensional, with Bernadette and Simonetta being particularly praiseworthy for how well they are realized in the writing. Overall, this is a great story for people who love their mysteries to ask deep and nuanced questions about not just the plot, but the world they themselves inhabit.
