Lunar Rampage by Samantha Cross is about a young woman called Cora, who goes to stay with her grandmother in the middle of nowhere for the summer. She lives in a dilapidated cabin and Cora plans on spending her summer fixing the place up and taking pictures of the local wildlife with her camera. Things don't go according to plan, however, as Cora uncovers a secret. There are werewolves on the loose in the woods. Cora begins to investigate and finds herself drawn into the mystery. There are a few surprises along the way as the werewolves' identities are revealed. Can Cora survive a summer at her grandmother's house?
Samantha Cross has written a great book in Lunar Rampage. Cora is a well developed character who is witty and self reliant. She can look after herself and isn't afraid to speak her mind. Her grandmother is a little crazy and some of the things she comes out with are very funny. I think you need a level of humour in horror novels and she provides it. The story moves at a good pace and keeps you turning the pages. I think this type of book is very marketable at the moment and that the author will do well with it. The setting was great too and really added to the horror in the story. It did have elements of Little Red Riding Hood, which I enjoyed because it is one of my favorite fairy tales.
