Lullaby (Book I) written by Consuelo Hamilton is a historical fiction novel that would appeal most to a mixed audience of young adults and adults that enjoy historically accurate Civil War romance stories. Nady was a slave in Wilmington, North Carolina who was well known for her singing. Nady sang before many important people in the South and was taught to sing in Italian and French for her performances, but her main duty was to sing her master’s young son to sleep each night. Nady’s nightly singing duty paves the way for the development of an unexpected love between Nady and Mattie. Yet in such a turbulent time as the Civil War will love be enough to close the gap that exists between a slave and her master’s son?
Lullaby by Consuelo Hamilton is a well-written and well-narrated audiobook packed to the brim with emotion. There was never a dull moment as it enticed me to keep listening hour after hour to follow Nady’s story and to discover if love was truly enough not only to bring Nady and Mattie together but keep them together throughout the upheaval of the Civil War. Nady was by far my favorite character and she felt so real to me as the author brought her to life. It felt like I could close my eyes and create a clear picture of her in my head. Overall, this book left me looking forward to book two and hoping that it will be out soon!
Lullaby (Book I) by Consuelo Hamilton is narrated by Una Knight. Ms. Knight is an experienced voice actor, her accent and previous experience made her the perfect narrator for this audiobook. She did an amazing job with all of the characters, but her talent shines the most when she narrates Nady.
