Lost Blades is penned by author Liz Sauco in the epic fantasy, adventure, and action genres, and is the opening novel of the Blades of the Goddess series. The work is best suited to the general adult reading audience. The plot follows two protagonists, Jamirh and Takeshi, as they are thrust into an ancient struggle against Abomination. In Lyndiniam, a street thief named Jamirh finds himself imprisoned after a failed heist, only to be rescued by a mysterious woman with powers. Meanwhile, in Ni Fon, a banished shinobi, Takeshi, is secretly working to gather information about a rebellion. Despite being thousands of miles apart, both Jamirh and Takeshi are drawn into a larger conflict that spans beyond their wildest imaginations.
Author Liz Sauco has utilized every drop of imaginative power to craft an immersive journey into a richly built world of magic, intrigue, and adventure. I really loved the confidence of the author in handling multiple perspectives and plotlines, drawing readers into the lives of Jamirh and Takeshi as they navigate their respective challenges and discover their roles in the ancient struggle against Abomination. This emotional through-line is gorgeously achieved with strong narrative viewpoints and emotive touches to ensure that we’re always checked into the hearts and minds of the central characters. The intricate world-building, coupled with this flair for dynamic character development, keeps readers totally involved and committed to this whole new world with its realistic attitudes and systems of power. I was also really impressed with the dialogue as a tool for not only conveying character relationships but also more information about the world and how our heroes see their place in it. Overall, Lost Blades is a thrilling start to the Blades of the Goddess series, promising an epic adventure that will captivate fantasy fans everywhere, and I can’t wait for more.
