'Little Sphinx sat in front of the gate to the city of Thebes holding the keys. She had a question for each traveler that passed by and it was a riddle. The riddle was: 'What has one voice and four feet? He does not speak in the morning. He has two feet by day's noontime and three feet by night.' No one could guess it right, so she made them wait outside. The gate-watching gig was getting difficult and Little Sphinx was bored with the riddles she told. People crept past her in socks when she slept on her rock. Her mom Echidna woke her up and told her what was happening and Sphinx vowed not to fall asleep again.
Sphinx wanted to be free from her gate-watching responsibilities and though she made the passersby laugh with her jokes, many travelers were stuck outside and waiting without knowing the riddle's answer. Pandora arrived there with her box which could not be opened and she saw many people outside the door and wondered what the problem could be. She told Sphinx to give the riddle so that they all could go inside because a storm was coming and there was nowhere to hide. Would Sphinx be able to deal with the problem?
