When Cameron Mitchell sits at his desk for the last time, he reflects upon his past and how he eventually arrived at this juncture in his life. His past loves and his current position. The consequences of decisions. The possibilities ahead. Little does he know that probably his greatest adventure is right around the corner. This is where it all begins. Life Got In The Way details the lives of Jackie and Dana, from their college years until Cameron returns to the picture. While Cameron is a major character in this novel, his presence takes a minor role throughout the body of the story while the reader concentrates on the past lives of Dana and Jackie. Two very different women with very similar goals, their relationship is testimony to the value of true friendship.
Life Got In The Way by Deborah J. Davis is a prime example of what happens when we allow that to happen. I appreciated the arrangement of plot details in this flashback format. The realistic nature of the story lends to its authenticity. The author’s command of English succeeds in telling an entertaining story. There is just the right amount of heartbreak, heart hope, and heart disappointments to deem this a winning tale for fans of women’s fiction. The plot conclusion has just enough suspense to hold the reader captive until the last page. I enjoyed this novel and really, really relate to the title. Life Got In The Way is the perfect title for this perfect addition to the summer reading list.
