Life Everlasting by C.D. Loza is a unique fictional look at heaven. The room was white and empty when sixteen-year-old Peter Ramirez opened his eyes. He did not know who or where he was and he was filled with questions that only a man named Zarath could answer. “You died in a car crash.” Bits of smoke and a fire ball erupted when Zarath opened the book. Peter witnessed his own birth and many other milestones in his short life. After few days, Peter was reunited with his ancestors. Back on Earth, Peter’s parents, Gino and Theresa, mourned the loss of their son. They made the decision to leave the Philippines and move to the US. Gino had always been gone a lot with his work, now he and Theresa were forced to spend time together. After being apart so much throughout their marriage, they no longer knew how to depend on each other.

The characters had great depth. Theresa showed much weakness; the family constantly had their hands out asking for money and material possessions. She did not have the courage to tell them no. The chapters moved back and forth between Peter and Theresa, giving both perspectives of coping and reacting to Peter’s death.

I found this book to be pleasant although the author’s concept of heaven is very different from mine. While I picture heavenly choirs of the saints singing God’s praises, the author describes a heaven not a lot different from our earthly home. This tale stirred many emotions in my soul. The sadness we experience when we lose someone we love and the joy of a heavenly reunion. C.D. Loza is a talented author. I look forward to reading more of his works.
