In Let's Go Tangelo by Paul Brush, Tangelo the cat just wants to relax and watch the birds before having another nap but his owner has other ideas. First, there are the household chores to complete, how to cook something delicious to eat, clean, and plant trees. Once the chores are completed, Tangelo gets to have some fun. He learns how to play ping pong, fly a kite, and then visits the fair. He even gets to meet a clown and makes plenty of new friends. By the end of the day, Tangelo has learned how nice it is to share and help others. Tangelo even receives a bravery award and realizes that he can do so much more with his day than watch birds and sleep.
Let's Go Tangelo by Paul Brush is such a well-written story and made me laugh out loud throughout. I loved cheeky little Tangelo, his facial expressions were so comical. The message is subtle but very powerful and will definitely motivate children to step out of their comfort zones and become more thoughtful. I also think it will show children how much fun you can have with the simple things in life, such as gardening, cooking, and enjoying the outdoors. The illustrations by Danielle May are so colorful and bring out the character's personality and emotions perfectly. There is also a lot of detail in the pictures to help with conversations with the child reader about sharing, believing in yourself and caring for others. A must-have book for any parent trying to get their child to complete their chores and building confidence to try new activities.
