Leonard, Becca, and Johnny are three British children who are in for the adventure of their lives. It is Christmas Eve Day and a frigid day at that. Serena Fadlun shares their experiences that day in the book Leonard and the Knights of the Square Table. As is well known, King Arthur’s famous table was round, or was it? What is the meaning of this “square table?” Leonard and his friends discover a time machine and travel back to the days of yore. Everything at Camelot is not as the old stories described. Even with Becca warning Leonard to be careful and not make any changes, he does anyway. He corrects the bard’s poem of the round table. This sets in motion other changes. Join the trio as they travel to a time when all wheels were square, Nazis ruled England, and other weird things.
Serena Fadlun has authored a new book that involves time travel, knights of the “round” table, Nazis winning the war against England, and other anomalies. All this happened as a result of Leonard’s changing one tiny word in a poem. Serena has created a fantasy version of what could have happened with just a minor adjustment to an event in history. In Leonard and the Knights of the Square Table, she keeps the reader’s attention with her excellent writing skills. Even though the book is written with elementary school-aged children in mind, parents will enjoy it too. Her style of writing is engaging and simple. Her grasp of history brings the stories to life. As a result, children will find the events in the book almost believable. Serena makes every scene come alive. Be ready to discuss some serious issues as your child reads this book.
