Left Without Answers is a brilliant psychological thriller by Cori Nevruz. Alice’s son Hank is found in his room, and it looks like suicide. There were no warning signs that Hank might be suicidal, and he left no note behind. Alice believes Hank’s best friend, Arnold, may know why he committed suicide, and she will not stop until she knows the truth. Alice’s husband has moved on and pleads with her to do the same. Arnold decides to share Hank’s secret with Alice, believing it will help with her grief. Arnold finally sends Alice a letter admitting that Hank had been bullied for a long time. When Alice starts finding little blue sticky notes, she believes it is from Hank from his grave. Alice becomes more desperate to find the truth and detaches herself from everyone around her.
Left Without Answers by Cori Nevruz handles a mother’s grief with empathy. The plot is complex and unpredictable, and I was engaged from the start. I could feel the mother’s pain and wanted to look for answers with her. It was heartbreaking to join her on this journey of grief. It is fast-paced, and the action starts early in the story. The suspense kept me guessing until the end. It is a page-turner, and I could not put it down. With all the twists and turns, I could not predict what would happen next. The characters are well-developed and authentic. It is a compelling story and well-written. I was surprised by the ending and did not see it coming.
