In Kiss the Doors by Lari Kathleen Quinn, Teddy O’Brien is off on a road trip, traveling with the man she loves and whom she thought loved her. Abandoned in a tiny town in South Dakota, Teddy has nothing to her name, and the locals don’t like strangers. As she tries to make a new life for herself, she is harassed at every turn and blamed for everything that goes wrong in the town. She soon gets to know some of the residents and learns that the best way to survive is to use the tools she has – her sense of humor and her wits. Can Teddy put the past aside, start afresh, and make a new life for herself?
Kiss the Doors by Lari Kathleen Quinn is a wonderful story of courage, survival after abuse, and the consequences of making bad choices. This is a fun read as well, with plenty of humor and mystery to it; you don’t know where it’s going to take you from one page to the next, and the ending is truly satisfying. The characters were well-developed into likable people, and the dialog was tight. There is plenty of tension here but the author has dealt with the subject of domestic abuse sensitively. This is an entertaining story albeit with a serious note to it, yet you’ll find it an enjoyable read – don’t shy away from it because of the subject matter. Hopefully, there is a sequel in the works.
