King’s Blood is a work of fiction in the historical, Christian, and action sub-genres which was penned by author Daniel J. Geisel. Written for adult audiences due to some intense themes and scenes of warlike violence, this compelling novel takes us back to biblical times to recount the amazing journey of David as he faces his destiny to become king. Known only as a shepherd and a servant to his own family, David’s secrets are many and his adventure is about to be taken to gigantic heights. When the new identity as a warrior sinks in, this is where things change dramatically for David and the kingdom turns against him.
Author Daniel J. Geisel has penned a biblically faithful epic tale that lifts the story of David out of Sunday school and reminds us of the true hardship and grim reality of the times in which he sought triumph and fought against adversity. One of the things which I admired throughout the novel was the sense of atmosphere, which utilized both description and dialogue to bring characters to life as realistically as possible for the historical period. There was a cinematic quality to the narration that painted some wonderful action scenes, and the pacing of the novel’s plot overall turns an epic journey into a fast-paced ride where readers are sure to keep begging for just one more chapter. Overall, I would highly recommend King’s Blood to both fans of Christian historical fiction and those seeking an epic and empowering adventure novel in itself.
