K: The Awakening by K.R. Fajardo is an epic fantasy that will take you on a journey to a place where there is magic, love, myth, and a lot of adventure. Mikel lives in a small town named Vicaris; he has a daughter named Citera and runs a small clinic. Living in oppression is not easy, especially if you are up against forces that are far stronger than you are. Life in that small town can be a little tough, but this father and daughter duo thrives in this chaotic life and lives for the time when they can help other people. However, they got more than they bargained for when a young woman is taken to their clinic and they try to help her. Just when they take the bedraggled woman inside, the Shadow forces and their leader, Enforcer, are coming their way. They have very little time and this woman needs their help. Mikel does not hesitate and runs away with her. Little does he know that this woman is not like them! She is not ordinary and her uniqueness can get him killed.
A thoroughly enjoyable read. I am not a huge fan of epic fantasy. I am a sucker for romance and a happy ending, but there was something about this novel that spoke to me the moment I looked at the blurb. This is not your everyday fantasy fiction, it is unique and grabs your attention in 0.001 seconds. By the time I finished reading the novel, I was thinking about the next installment and what it would be about. Would it be about K? Or would it be a continuation? Regardless to say, I loved it and want more!
