The mother-daughter bond is a special treasure. Daughters look up to their mothers and try to copy their example, to do what their mothers do. Daughters are full of questions: “how do you get to the moon?” and “where do you keep your money?” With so many questions, there are bound to be lots of answers and each answer leads to a suggestion of something really amazing a young girl can be when she grows up. But, at the end of the stream of questions, it’s nice to hear, “I want to be a great Mommy, just like you!”
Keosha Sath’s picture book story, Just Like You, is a charming look at a mother-daughter relationship and the special bond a little girl, full of questions, shares with her mother. The plot progresses through a series of innocent questions that any young girl might ask of her mother – questions about life. Each time, the mother provides a simple answer and the girl responds with an interest in becoming whatever special job the question led to – like an astronaut, or a financial accountant, or a veterinarian, or a beekeeper, or even the President of the United States. There are no limits to what any girl can aspire to be and, with a supportive mother (and father), any girl can achieve her dreams. I especially like the ending where the final conclusion clearly demonstrates the daughter’s pride and love for her mother. With colorful illustrations, this story is beautifully told with compassion and will certainly be an inspiration to creative young daughters who are the potential leaders of the future.
