Just Like That! Insignificant Tales & Love Stories by Curtis Shalo is filled with hilarious stories about his experiences in life. The stories are short and are about all different things. From elevators to poop, all the stories will leave a lasting impression on you! Many people may have issues with Shalo according to his “Bad Habits” chapter. At times he does comes off as a “dirty old man” and I disagree with his hiring practices, but there are two things that stand out about him that I like. He loves his family and he knows how to make people laugh with his storytelling abilities.
There were many stories that stood out to me in Just Like That! Insignificant Tales & Love Stories, but I will just mention only a few. The sponge living in Shalo’s ear was an amazing story and will also forever leave me traumatized. I was able to relate to him with his “???” chapter. Being a mom, I feel I ask too many repeated questions a day. My favorite chapter happened to be “Dumpys”. Pooping out alphabet letters may not be for everyone, but it is what potty-trained my daughter! Not all of Shalo’s stories are meant make you to laugh. There are a couple stories in the book that show Shalo’s serious side. His story titled “Eulogy” left me with tears in my eyes. It reminded me that time heals wounds, but leaves still scars. Overall, I enjoyed this book. Shalo has a great sense of humor and has a gift in storytelling. If you like to laugh, then this is a book for you!
