Daisy the dog wanted to go for a ride on the bike but Leo the cat just wanted to stay at home. Suddenly a cricket hopped up and looked as it would steer the bike. Daisy and Leo also hopped onto the bike. Leo knew he would have nightmares as he clung on tight while the cricket chirped and Daisy yelled. The wind was terrible and they flew down the hill and crashed into a tree. Leo wanted to go home, he had had enough adventures for the day! A golf cart stopped near them and Daisy told Leo they had to ride on it and have more fun. They drove through the park and reached the shore where the sand made it difficult to drive. Leo wanted to go back to his window sill where it was peaceful and calm. They all got into a boat but Leo hated the water. The boat turned over and Leo fell into the water. However, even after all this, he realized it was much more fun than sitting at home all day and it was good to be out with friends. They all went back home happily after their joy rides on the bike, golf cart, and boat.

Joyride by Arielle Haughee is a fun and adventurous story that will encourage children to step out of their comfort zones and try new things. Fay Becca gives color and life to the story and characters with her adorable illustrations and makes the friendship between the dog, the cat, and the cricket palpable to young readers. The rhyme scheme adds to the cheerful and lyrical feel of the story and gives it a good pace and movement. Joyride by Arielle Haughee is a good story for tutors and parents to use for storytelling sessions to help children become more adventurous and fun-loving and try their hands at new things.
