In Joshua’s Tree, N.W. Harris displays the full depth of his imagination and creativity in his main characters Joshua and Nadia. Joshua Tyler sets out on his skateboard, takes a fall, and ends up in what he thinks is a whole different world. Giant monsters chase him and he’s rescued by an unusual girl who has a prophecy in which Joshua is the savior. They face many difficulties and adventures and what started out as total disdain for each other changes along the way as tenderness sprouts and grows between them. Nadia seems to be Joshua’s exact opposite. She is freakishly strong and fearless, while he usually sees himself as a wimp. Unable to communicate at first, they trudge on silently through difficult and deadly terrain in search of answers. All Joshua wants is to go back to his home in Santa Barbara, but that cannot happen until everything is fulfilled. Amidst cruel mind games, Joshua finally comes face to face with himself.
If you love adventure and unusual situations, Joshua’s Tree is the book for you. N.W. Harris takes the use of imagination to a whole different level. His creative descriptions paint a vivid picture in the reader’s mind. The plot is so unpredictable that you breathlessly wait to be able to turn the page and continue the adventure. N.W. Harris makes you feel as if you were right there, hiding behind the trees, witnessing every single scene. Like in a real movie, the reader can actually see the colors and hear the sounds being described. Without a doubt, this story is engaging and appealing to young and old.
