Jeremiah Strout and the Curse of the Golden Harp by Karen T. Harter is a fun, exciting book filled with humor. Jeremiah Strout is moving to Flyerton, a town in the middle of nowhere. Jeremiah, used to city life, is far from excited about the move. However, when a crazy old man tells him to leave town, and strange stories are told about kids disappearing, he finds that maybe the town isn’t so boring after all. After meeting Aggie, a local girl, even more questions arise. But when Jeremiah finds a small golden harp in the basement of the new house, he thinks it might be the key to solving the mystery. Everything unravels when a large, hairy, skirt-wearing barbarian breaks down the door to his house. Soon he is drawn into a conflict between two clans over the harp.
With an engaging plot and funny twists, this is a great book for preteen readers. Karen T. Harter crafts a very enjoyable story set in modern times. She uses a style of writing that all kids will love and creates a story that is both intriguing and exciting. With clever characters, Karen T. Harter creates the cool world of Jeremiah Strout. I really enjoyed the abundant descriptions in Jeremiah Strout and the Curse of the Golden Harp. I give the book a thumbs-up for the clever wording. With room for a sequel, this book is a fun and engaging read. Karen T. Harter did a terrific job on Jeremiah Strout and The Curse of The Golden Harp.
