Cabot Barden is a singer/ songwriter/ author who has experienced many similar adventures which are described in his books. He has played with bands most of his adult life. His bands have opened for artists like Mickey Gilley, Emmylou Harris, the Georgia Satelites, Jan and Dean, Grayson Hughe, Billy Joe Royal, and many others. He has worked in recording studios in Birmingham, Al, Nashville, Tn and several other cities. He and his cowriters have had several songs on the radio at different times over the years. He is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Association International, ASCAP, and an honorary member of the National Underwater and Marine Agency, which is owned by his friend, Clive Cussler. Cabot’s first book, “It’s The Bass Player” received a thumbs up endorsement from Mr. Cussler in 2011.

"It's the Bass player" by Cabot Borden will appeal to young musicians or to those that listened to young musicians in the seventies. It describes the pitfalls that can occur with the formation of a band of young boys and girls. They said that was a jinx to have a group picture because someone in the picture would quit if they did. People were members of the group sometimes for only a short time and were missed. Others proved to be a load of trouble and were asked to leave. Travel in older vehicles proved to be a problem when tires and water systems failed. One time an accident caused their instruments damage. The core band was male but girls turned up as singers, girlfriends, and sometimes groupies.
These boys had a dream, to make it big in the music world. They wanted to cut a record as an important strategy to do this. They put up with long hours of practice, trips to play for pay that wasn't great. They played in officers' clubs, enlisted men's clubs, frat houses, and high schools, where mostly they received a friendly welcome. Occasionally some drunk would cause a stir, but they kept on playing and went on to the next booking. Romance had its place in the book, sometimes the girls were too forward and made the boys back off and then the right girl would show up and this could be the beginning of true romance.
