It's Okay to be Different Thorina-Bina by Barbara S Lougheed is an adorable story of a kitten, Thorina-Bina, who always gets startled easily because she can hear and see better than other cats. Her sisters always tease her because she looks different from them. Thorina-Bina wonders why she is different from them. Her sisters call her a scaredy cat and trick her and get her running into the woods. Thorina-Bina meets different types of animals and creatures in the woods. She makes friends with them and she realizes everyone is unique and different. This great story conveys the strong concept of accepting oneself and being happy with that.
The story is beautiful and the concept is even more touching and helpful to readers who struggle to accept themselves. It is also educational because children get to know the names of many animals and their pictures help them identify these animals later. Children also get to meet a turtle, lizard, armadillo and two dogs along with Thorina-Bina. It's a good bedtime storybook to read out to kids and the concept also makes it perfect for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries. Stories with a message, moral and concept are good for children to help them understand in a better way through the story. It's a fun story with a good meaning, and the animal pictures, subject matter and word choices can be easily comprehended by young readers.
