After the untimely death of her father due to a car accident, Isabella’s mother moves the family to live with her grandparents in Florida Keys. Other than the loss that takes a toll on the family, especially her mother, Isabella faces similar dilemmas that teens have to go through such as love crush and – unfortunately – bullies as well as prejudice. But Isabella is special and her intuition, with some help from her special ‘friends’, always guide her out of trouble.
First of all, a worthy praise for the gorgeous cover art. Beginning chapters immediately, and effortlessly, grabbed my attention and I was very curious about what exactly happened to Isabella’s father. I loved Isabella. She was special not because of her ‘gift’, but the way she dealt with people’s reaction to it and how brave she was to just be herself. The start of each chapter was accompanied with fun-looking, young illustrations that embodied the content of every chapter very well. All in all, this book is flawless. It is a young adult fiction, but the story and the life lessons it contain for teen girls are also compelling for everyone. Adults won’t have to shy away from this book as it conveys a great message about one’s intuition. Not to mention that Isabella’s life in Florida Keys wasn't a quiet one; you would want to be part of her ‘unique’ life. "Isabella Barella" is truly an inspiring, well-done book by the talented Carol Garton.
