In Indelibly Inscribed: Collected Musings on Christian Spirituality, Anthony Maranise examines the parallels between spirituality with everyday objects and activities, drawing enlightening spiritual lessons from these connections. He also examines contemporary topics such as tattooing and also discusses personal experiences. In the first chapter, The Beauty of Broken Mirrors, the book explores how mirrors only reflect the external form but fail to show the more important internal aspects that reflect the image of God. The second part provides insight on celebrating Holy Week and Easter during the Covid-19 pandemic. It explains that social distancing is an expression of caring for those we love and that physical separation does not hinder spiritual togetherness and a focus on Christ.
Each section in Indelibly Inscribed contains multiple eye-opening lessons. The connections that the book derives from the physical world are surprising and encouraging as they show how each process and activity we experience can be a source of spiritual learning. For instance, the book likens Jesus’s final breath on the cross to the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedure. It explains that through his final breath before his death, Jesus breathed eternal life into a dead world. The themes it examines such as those about divine providence, humility, and faith can be applied in everyday life. The book also contains quotes and extracts from multiple sources, including lessons from the Catholic faith that help explain and support its content. Indelibly Inscribed by Anthony Maranise is a compelling spiritual guide with significant and practical lessons.
