Incy's Adventure Begins: The Belltower Series Book 1 by John and Mike Crescitelli is a story that will take young readers on a wonderfully adventurous journey to Creation along with Incy the mouse, who lived in St. Christopher's Church, a grand old church. He was born and raised in the church and his home was a cozy little room in the mouse hole at the back of the church where he slept. For the first time, Father Sherman packs Incy's bag and sends him on a trip all alone. Incy meets Adam and Eve, Pent the serpent, and comes across the Tree of Knowledge. Incy's adventures and the characters he meets on the way make the story entertaining and interesting.
The story is imaginative and creative and will help children realize how anyone can find their way back home with the help of friends, a few crumbs, and faith. The narration is detailed and descriptive and the authors' fluidity in expression gives a good pace and movement to the story. The illustrations by Haley Paulsen are adorable and they make the story more enthralling and appealing. The story emphasizes the importance of living in harmony and peace since all people are God's children. Eden or Paradise does not exist in a faraway universe; it exists here on Earth and that is the powerful message the authors convey through the magical journey of Incy. Stories like this that take children closer to God and the Bible should be introduced to young readers at a very early age because it helps them easily understand the power and presence of God in everybody's lives.
