Incubus by Amanda Meuwissen is a riveting science fiction saga with a little romance on the side. Nathan and his twin brother Jim have been running for years with only each other to rely on. When Jim is taken, Nathan in his grief makes a rash decision to offer himself in his place. Nathan double-crosses the Messenger during the deal, marking himself with a deadly bounty. Jim, born a changeling, was gone for two weeks from Nathan's perspective, but was in the Veil for months. When Jim returns, he has no recollection of what happened during the time he was gone. The Messenger hinted that Jim's time there may have changed him, but stated that it would take time for his memories to return. Nathan and Jim seek the assistance of Sasha Kelly, a fae hunter with secrets of his own. The three men set off on a journey to find the dark sidhe that holds Nathan's bounty before his fate is sealed. Throughout the tale, Nathan struggles with his growing feelings for Sasha and the implications of what they could mean.

Amanda Meuwissen has created an intriguing world of magic and mystique in Incubus. Her characters are more than they appear, with a depth of layers that continue to reveal themselves as the story unfolds. The devotion and brotherly love between Nathan and Jim is heartwarming and sincere. Sasha is a funny and sexy character. The initial awkward scenes between Sasha and Nathan are exactly how I would picture someone like Nathan responding in the real world. Their budding relationship adds a bit of drama and suspense to the tale.
