If You Were Me and Lived in...India is a wonderful introduction to the country. Author Carole P. Roman organized the pages and discusses food on one page, sports on another, and some common terms on another. I like how the pronunciations are in parenthesis after unusual words, as it helps one to read the story. A Pronunciation Guide is included at the back of the book with the pronunciations and brief definitions. This easy-to read, non-fiction book would be useful in school and public libraries because it’s a good reference book. I think teachers will like the basic introduction to India and will share it with students, or they can read it themselves. Even parents will enjoy reading it with children.
If You Were Me and Lived in...India includes a map with the capital city marked on it. The book includes a world map so readers can see where on earth India is located. The illustrations also help to convey the story. The pictures combine photography in the background and drawings in the foreground - an interesting technique. I found myself going back and looking at all the pictures again just to see if a photograph was used and where. The text pages have an orange background, one of the colours of the flag. If You Were Me and Lived in...India is an interesting book that teachers and parents will enjoy reading with children—and I am going to add this country to my bucket list.
