Timmy wished his mother good morning as he sat down for breakfast on Monday morning. His mother placed a bowl of warm oatmeal in front of him. She had made a smiley face using raisins and they grinned at him. Timmy refused to eat it because he hated oatmeal. The same thing happened on Tuesday morning too, even though his mother had spelled out his name in honey. Timmy scooped the honey and ate it just how he had picked out the raisins and eaten them. Wednesday morning his mother made a funny clown face out of fruits. He did the same thing, ate the fruits but did not touch the oatmeal. His mother decided to do something different. She took Timmy's bowl and fed the seven fuzzy ducks that were outside. They chirped for more and Timmy watched them enjoying it. What happened on Thursday morning when Timmy sat down for his breakfast? I Hate Oatmeal by Jan Lis is an adorable story that will connect with picky eaters.
Courtney Smith makes the concept real and relatable with her colorful and wonderful illustrations. I Hate Oatmeal by Jan Lis is a good story for tutors and parents to use for storytelling and read-aloud sessions, especially if there are picky eaters in class and at home. The Additional Fun exercise at the end makes the book fun and interactive for children where they learn new things in an entertaining way. It is indeed delightful to watch Timmy's mother finally being able to make him eat his oatmeal breakfast. This story might be helpful to many parents to try the same tactic with their own picky eaters.
