How the Earth Holds Us is a collection of thought-provoking poems by Mary Holman Tuteur. The poems are inspired by her life experiences and delve into different aspects of living, including death, complex relationships between parents and children, and the unexpected nature of life. The collection takes readers on adventures to California, Cape Town, San Francisco, and Georgia, and tells stories of youthful summers, getting a driver's license, attending class, and falling in love. The poet talks about passion and desire, solitude, depression, suicide, grief, abandonment, and adoption, while also mentioning the enchanting power of horses, wild creatures, and nature. The last section of the book tells the story of her life.

I liked that the author uses simple words, making it easy to understand the poems. Overall, I enjoyed this collection and hope that many others read it and appreciate this work.
