How Ferris Wolfe Got Fired by Beverly Garside is a novella that brings the office to life in a fast-paced, humorous whodunit. Garside puts together a cast of characters to rival the hit series The Office. Ferris Wolfe, the publisher of Aquatic Hobbyist Magazine, thinks he has hit the big time with an exclusive series of articles featuring Prince Harry and his wife Meghan as aquarium enthusiasts. While Ferris is preoccupied with his dreams of grandeur, his office is diving into the depths of chaos. Chase “Catfish” Fowler’s title is assistant to the publisher, but his real talent lies in internet snooping. Mable, “The Gumdrop Gifter,” is the lead graphic designer, but she spends more time playing internet games than creating magazine layouts. Meanwhile, coffee break turns into afternoon chatfest, and Elena Gutierrez resorts to knitting since she can’t concentrate on anything else. Imogene Riley, in payroll, is the only one really working. So, when Imogene is threatened with termination, she doesn’t know what to do until a little voice speaks to her.
How Ferris Wolfe Got Fired by Beverly Garside is a hysterical take on office life with quirky characters who drag the reader on unpredictable twists and turns. I feel like I have worked with some of these people at one time. How Ferris Wolfe Got Fired is one laugh after another, and when things cannot get much worse, voices start coming out of the walls. Ferris is desperate to find the culprit while he frantically tries to save his career. I loved this story, and I hope to meet Garside’s characters again soon, just not in my office. How Ferris Wolfe Got Fired is the perfect read when you need a break from work and a good laugh.
