Sophia’s birthday was fast approaching, and she looked forward to it. She also wished to own a pet hippopotamus, owing to her love for animals. While relaxing in her front yard on a summer day, Sophia saw a truck driver drop off a beautiful hippopotamus. She thought it was an early birthday present, and a happy Sophia went to inform her parents. Sophia’s parents denied knowing about the gift, but the child did not care. She took the hippopotamus on a house tour, and chaos ensued. The animal got out of control and destroyed many things throughout the house. Will Sophia be able to calm the animal? How Did the Hippopotamus Get There? by Sohrab Rezvan is a silly but funny story. This picture book is appropriate for toddlers, as the story and colorful pictures will excite and hold their attention. I also recommend the book for kindergarten libraries because it is a learning tool for identifying living things, places, objects, and colors. Moreover, children who wish to own pets will understand how much hard work caring for animals can be. The author did a great job, and I loved everything about the picture book. This book is a must-read for every child’s bedtime. I can’t wait to discover what the future holds for Sophia, her parents, and the hippopotamus in the next installment.
