How Badly Do You Want to Succeed? Set, Obsess, and Achieve Your Ultimate Goal by Palmer Simpson is a non-fiction self-help guide designed to educate and motivate readers to reach the heights they have often dreamed of but never truly pursued. The book starts off with Simpson providing insight into his life with eye-opening revelations and his own acceptance that the NFL wasn't going to call. From there the book transitions into the stages set out by Simpson to achieve the "Ultimate Goal” through a series of practical tasks and positive psychology.
So I guess the question is, How Badly Do You Want to Succeed? And is Palmer Simpson just the person to help you do it? I think Simpson puts a lot of important and insightful information into this book, but it's genuinely the stories of his own experiences that are the icing. My favorite revolved around the pitfalls of having fake friends, wherein Simpson shares a story about a social media friend that he'd bumped into at a club. She left because her friends couldn't get in but the next day her social media page was alight with photos of Simpson's table and drinks as if it were actually hers. Simpson is completely relatable and writes in a style that feels like you're sitting down chatting with a buddy. There are a lot of books out there that will give you advice on how to achieve just about anything, but it's the panache with which Simpson addresses the directives that make this guide a five-star draw.
