Hobart's Second Quest by Heather Mullaly, another installment in the Adventures of Hobart series, is a captivating adventure for young readers. Twelve-year-old Hobart is a knight school student at the court of King Roland and Queen Yolonda. An unexpected guest disrupts Hobart's usual routine. It is the young King Arthur traveling to see other kings and queens. Hobart's friend, Tate, brings a letter from Lord Rupert. He invites Hobart to enjoy watching a meteor shower from his castle. Suddenly, Arthur wants to go with them. The young king reveals that he has lost his legendary sword, Excalibur. Hobart, Tate, and their friend Hero decide to help Arthur find Excalibur and keep his throne. New challenges, incredible encounters, and a couple of life lessons await them on this journey.

In Hobart's Second Quest, Heather Mullaly invites us to look at the classic legend of King Arthur from a new and humorous perspective. Hobart is the narrator of this engrossing tale with a moral at its core, amusing plot twists, and an ending that surprised me a lot. Hobart is wise and resourceful beyond his age, Tate is selfless and kind, and Hero is a no-nonsense girl with a fearless heart and a sharp sword. They accept Arthur despite his haughtiness, thus setting an example of loyalty and true friendship. The book has hilarious scenes and whimsical secondary characters, like a vegetarian dragon and Hobart's talking horse, Albert. An engaging element of mystery regarding Arthur's lost sword adds some serious notes to the narrative. I highly recommend this riveting book to readers of all ages.
