Hmmm...Food for Thought by Michael U. Anthony is a book that intrigued me by its title. Nothing flashy, nothing extraordinary! It read like words pronounced by a man after a sigh. But this book, slim and succinct, is a treasure that Christians will enjoy. In very simple and clear language, the author leads readers through the different seasons of the Christian calendar, a journey that can be aptly described as a walk through the seasons of the soul. The book is comprised of several passages from scripture, each depicting a central theme in each season — Christmas, Lent, Palm Sunday, Easter, New Year, etc. This is one of the books that will help readers to journey with Jesus through the most significant moments of His life, espousing the virtues and spiritual values that He communicates to His followers.
Michael U. Anthony’s Hmmm...Food for Thought can be read as a book of prayer and it serves as a beautiful companion for those who want to deepen their consciousness of the message of Jesus and allow it to transform their lives. Each meditation or reflection contains a biblical passage, then an exegesis and a central message that can be applied to real life. Readers will find exclamations and declarations that, when consciously embraced, will allow them to shift their perspective, get focused, and help them to find meaning in the banality of their day-to-day experiences. The book is written in a very simple style — even if the author sounds preachy at times — and its message is very relevant to this time when we give little attention to things of the spirit. It’s a book for seekers who want to encounter God in a life-changing experience. For the sake of reviewing this book, I had to read it in few sittings, but it is not a book to be read in haste. A passage would suffice for a reading, because each passage is supposed to accompany the reader over a long period of the day or of time. It’s a treasure trove for followers of Jesus, the Word-Made-Flesh.
