His Healing By Perfect Love by Ronteé Marshall is a Christian romance that revolves around Alex and Georgia, who share a passionate encounter in Costa Rica. Alex, still bereft and blaming himself for the death of his sister Kaitlyn, chooses not to pursue any type of relationship and disappears, leaving Georgia heartbroken. In the aftermath, Georgia takes a friend's advice and goes to Canada for a few months to work as a camp counselor, while Alex continues to train as an elite sailing competitor. Both have a great deal to manage emotionally and Alex's parents, Martin and Alison, whose lives are also devastated by the loss of their daughter, give a point of view into their grief as well. At the camp, Georgia quickly bonds with Julie and her husband Joe, but when tragedy strikes and the trio ends up in the hospital, the faith of all who are connected is put to the test.
Ronteé Marshall doubles down on the belief that nothing in life ever happens by chance and that divine intervention is in everything we experience in His Healing By Perfect Love. From a literary standpoint, the book is clean and well-written, and the story moves at a comfortable pace. There are four characters that stood out most firmly to me at the forefront, Georgia, Alex, Martin, and Alison, and each is developed fully. Who they are and what they think, feel, and perceive are all enhanced by independent points of view that frequently overlap. Out of everyone, the most complex and interesting isn't actually Georgia and Alex, but Martin with his absolute inability to move forward, accept what happened to Kaitlyn as God's will, and stop shifting blame. Some of what he does is infuriating, but as a parent myself it is hard not to empathize with where that all comes from. No reader who picks the book up will question it as a Christian romance. Marshall has a 'tell it like it is' approach. Overall, this is heartbreaking and heartwarming. Very highly recommended.
