What a story! I loved it! It took me back to simpler times. Times where there were no cell phones, computers, and if you had a TV, you only had three channels. Kids played outside and parents didn't have to worry so much. When you cooked instead of ordering in and the bathroom was outside. Families spent time together, if it was doing chores, eating and going places. This was time where you knew your neighbors and that even meant the ones in town and out in the country. Times when churches had social gatherings and families went to reunions just to see what happened since the last time they were altogether. I am not as old as the author, but I do remember some of these things and wished that some of these things still went on today.

Technology is good but we seem to let it take over our lives. Simpler can be better. Anyone could pick this book up and read a chapter or two or the poems and know where this man is coming from. I loved the poems. Younger kids might not like this because it does tell about how to live without the modern things. You walked a lot, visited friends, or they visit you. Food was simple and good. Families were large and they loved one another. This family seemed to have a great foundation and a good life, even if they had to work hard for it. They laughed a lot and shared in the joy of life. Sometimes the laughter may have been at the expense of another but isn't that the way it is sometimes. We have to learn to enjoy life with what it gives us.

I enjoyed this book very much. It is a family book about simpler times that a lot of us will never experience and may not even know anything about. The cover goes with the story. It is a picture of the author’s parents and the homes where they lived. The title is very catching and the story that goes with it is hilarious. Sometimes when we go visiting, we never know what the dinner will be. People did what they had to do with.
