Grimwell by Michael Belanger is for fantasy, romance, drama, and adventure fans. Derek Winnebaker finds an old book in a supply closet of the Read and Bean Coffee Shop, where he works as a barista. Derek is an avid reader, and the book about the fantasy land of Grimwell and a grimkin named Eldrid Babble engrosses him completely. Derek soon notices that the book affects his life profoundly. Derek finally asks out a woman he likes and fights back when his boss, Sam, oversteps his authority. However, the book's impact becomes overwhelming, and Derek starts asking himself whether Grimwell is a real place. Will he gather enough courage to explore the land full of monsters and dark magic?
In Grimwell, Michael Belanger offers a delightful combination of magical adventure and a darker element of horror, heartwarming romance, and a thought-provoking inner journey toward self-improvement. The author examines the role of books in our lives and makes us wonder if there is only a thin line between a hero and a villain. Every book lover will easily connect emotionally with Derek, a fellow bookworm. Derek craves adventure but is afraid to leave his comfort zone. It's a familiar situation for those who need additional courage to live their lives to the fullest. Belanger humorously describes curious secondary characters, like Grandfather Tree. The mystery around Grimwell grows with every plot twist and turn, fueling readers' imaginations. While the ending answers every question, I hope it is not our last adventure in the unusual world of Grimwell.
