Green Golly & her Golden Flute is an humorous adaptation of the Rapunzel fairy tale, written and performed by Keith Torgan and Barbara Siesel. The book comes with an audio disk and story sticker codes that give easy access to the auditory version of the story and musical compositions. Green Golly was bought from her parents by a gardening witch who places her in a tower to keep her from leaving. Golly is happy just to see all the beauty that surrounds her and begins to make a terrible racket with her singing. The witch gives her a flute, thinking that the sound would be an improvement, but she finds Golly's noise-making is even worse with the flute. So the witch gives Golly sheet music, piles of it, to keep the young woman happy up in her tower.
Keith Torgan and Barbara Siesel's musical fairy tale, Green Golly & her Golden Flute, is funny, educational, and inspirational all at once. The musical selections are fabulous and a great introduction for children(and anyone else, for that matter) to classical music. The illustrations by Suzanne Langelier Lebeda are fantastic with rich colors, amusing little creatures, and landscapes that fit right in with the story and the music. The story sticker codes are incredibly convenient ways to make the story come alive, no matter where you are.
The story itself is funny and off-beat and sure to make everyone laugh and have even more of a good time with this book that educates while it entertains. Green Golly & her Golden Flute is a special book, filled with music, art, and spirited performances by the authors. I enjoyed it and highly recommend it.
