Grant Me Justice: A Mother’s Journey from Murder and Mourning to Mercy and Dancing by Felecia Marshall offers a heartbreaking but ultimately uplifting account of one mother’s epic quest to achieve justice for the senseless and violent murder of her daughter who was specifically targeted and shot with an AK-47 assault rifle by someone who professed to be her friend. Through various cycles of denial, rage, despair, and hope, readers will understand the triumphs and tribulations of a mother’s journey based on a passion and dedication so strong that they led to the formation of a foundation for all parents seeking justice for children’s lives lost to violence and, subsequently, a lifelong mission for the author. Marshall’s quest begins in agony and ends in faith and a sense of inner peace which, at the start of this true-life story, seemed an impossibility. After initially feeling abandoned by God, Marshall simply refuses to give up until she has both justice for her daughter’s senseless killing and the answers she needs from within and above to find peace. Through perseverance and deep, ongoing spiritual self-examination, Marshall becomes a role model for all who suffer and seek to make sense of a senseless world.
Grant Me Justice is, on its face, a tribute to a beloved child, but it is also a testament to a mother’s love and her unceasing quest for deliverance from crippling grief and badly shaken faith. When Felecia Marshall failed, after a three-year series of court proceedings, to achieve the justice she desired for her beloved daughter Lexi B, she began to find healing through outreach to other parents who had lost children to senseless violence, and her foundation Grant Me Justice: A Voice for the Victim was born. In her courageous journey, readers will find both inspiration and affirmation. Marshall’s narrative is rendered in a plain-spoken, conversational, and un-sensationalized style, the result being that readers will feel as if they are going through the events of the story in real time with the author. The effect is, in a word, shattering, which makes Marshall’s subsequent quest all the more transformative. Grant Me Justice has all the ingredients necessary to bring hope to and restore faith for a weary and anguished world.
