Author Biography

When I started writing GOOD SAM, I saw how television news and newspaper reports can deeply influence many of our thoughts and feelings about the world we live in. We are constantly bombarded with stories about senseless murders, natural disasters, tragic accidents, massive fraud, and the dark side of the American Dream. I wondered, what would happen if someone were doing extraordinary good? Would the news media even cover it? And how would we as viewers, conditioned by the steady supply of violence and tragedy, respond to someone doing good?

I’m truly convinced that there is far more good going on in this world than the news media have time or commercial inclination to tell us. Writing GOOD SAM was a way of imagining a situation where a story of someone doing good would capture the nation’s attention and make us all want to be more like Good Sam.

GOOD SAM is my first novel. When I'm not writing, I'm president of Wind Dancer Films, a film development, finance and production company based in Los Angeles and New York. The company has created such television hits as Roseanne and Home Improvement along with George Lopez' latest series, Saint George. In addition, the company has developed and produced successful films such as What Women Want, the award-winning comedy Bernie starring Jack Black and Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey, among many other films.

I live in Los Angeles with my husband, three children and a cat that rules us all.

Kate usually covered what reporters referred to as "bummer" stories, stories that covered “death, destruction and weeping survivors.” She was shocked when the news director assigned her to cover a human interest story. Someone had left a stack of cash amounting to $100,000 in a woman’s mail box. Begrudgingly, Kate and her new photographer and producer made their way to Christina Flores’s home. Christina lived in a rough part of town leaving Kate to suspect the money was part of a drug deal. However, to Christina it was nothing short of a miracle. Kate placed little faith in miracles or people for that matter. But Christina wasn't the only one to receive $100,000...now Kate was intrigued.

“Good Sam” by author, Dete Meserve is one of the best mystery romance tales I have read in a long, long time. The reader is there as Kate slowly unravels the mystery of the identity of good Sam; even more enthralling was the reason why he was giving away money. Kate had little faith in people but finally she found someone she could trust. “Good Sam” is filled with mystery, betrayal, romance, and love. I enjoyed watching Kate change from a skeptic to someone that could trust; from a cynical reporter to a caring woman. Kudos to Dete Meserve, great book!
