Jell-O, the jiggly sweet treat that has graced families' tables since 1897 is just plain delicious. What better way to influence the minds and souls of humanity than through a substance that is consumed with great relish? Well, at least metaphorically speaking, Jell-O could affect and manipulate humans and that’s the whole theme of this book. Do we let irrational fear, insecurities, mistrust, and rage control our everyday existence? That’s one way that Lucifer believes he can gain control over humans. But what if we let God help us overcome these negative powers? What if we let God into our Jell-O instead of Lucifer?
The metaphor explained, the story begins. Or, actually, it’s more like a parable, like the ones Jesus shared with eager listeners. Teri Smith’s inspirational book, God in my Jell-O?, uses Jell-O as a metaphor for a substance which, when used to promote Lucifer’s cause, is thickened with negative emotions like fear that inhibit the positive development of a human. However, when God enters the equation, when God is jelled into this jiggly delicious treat, positive emotions dominate and Lucifer’s cause to promote the downfall of humanity is squelched.
Lucifer wants humans to believe that fear is a powerful instinct of survival, but it’s not. God is the truth and the way. God is the light that leads us away from fear, mistrust, rage, and all sorts of negative emotions that affect more than just the way we act - these negative emotions affect the way we live, the way we interact with one another. Using a parable of friends gathering at a high school reunion and one friend leading the discussion, the author takes the reader through the evidence, proving that we all need God in our Jell-O, as a prime substance of our everyday lives. Very thought provoking.
