Eoin O'Leary lived above his dad's sports shop. All the other boys in elementary school were jealous of him, and many of them liked hanging out with him in the store. One day he happened to go to the sub-basement where his father kept all the inventory for the store; sold, discarded and new. He came across his brother Peter's boxing gloves. Peter never allowed Eoin to touch them. Eoin and the boxing gloves were not ordinary because together they could knock out any ghost. In this story readers get to see how a fun field trip to the Memorial Art Gallery, along with Eoin's best friends Shane and Maddie, ends up being something more than a field trip.
Ghosts in the Gallery: The Adventures of Eoin O'Leary: Book One by Eli Celata is a good blend of ghosts, history, and friendship that will take young readers on a wild and spooky adventure. It is a fun read where children get to see ghosts speaking, boxing gloves having a mind and personality of their own, and a lot of phantoms floating in the Memorial Art Gallery. It is a good book for all youngsters who love adventures, ghost stories, and excitement.
The narration is simple, neat, vivid, and fluid, and will take young readers right into the story. Eoin is lovable, and so are his friends Shane and Maddie. The rest of the characters in the plot complement them and the story beautifully. There is not one boring moment in this story and readers will be eager to know what is going to happen next. I am waiting to read Book Two, and I am sure readers will be too!
