After 50 years as a practicing clinical psychologist, I have turned my attention to writing fiction. I have published several psychologically based novels and screenplays based on my experiences. My mission has been to help people maximize their potential and achieve their goals. Now, through my fiction writing, I hope to continue this mission and reach a larger audience. The stories I tell are all based on my years of practice. Each story deals with another aspect of the human condition.

Set against the traditional environment of a Southern California town, a place where it is just normal to peep over the neighbor’s fence, Gag Rule by Edward A Dreyfus is a touching tale of a woman’s struggle to save her husband’s name and ultimately the image of the family she’d always wanted. Grade school teacher, Dolores, is married to Lawrence, who teaches music to high school students. They have a perfect marriage and family, but when Lawrence gets convicted for sexual misconduct, she becomes hopeless as the life of her family falls to pieces. Does she have the strength to fight? How will their children face this trying situation? Can she really trust her husband completely? The thought of her husband spending a year in prison as a sex offender and his suspension from teaching fills her with unspeakable fear.
This is one of those books charged with an emotional intensity that can rip the heart in two, a book in which the psychological conflict is at its best. Edward A Dreyfus begins this gripping tale in the midst of action, in a courtroom with the verdict being passed. This is dramatic and it piques readers’ interest and forces them to find out why the man is being sentenced. The writing is beautiful and it is entertaining to see how the author mimics the accents of some of the characters and their mannerisms. Dolores is a protagonist readers will sympathize with, a well-developed and rounded character facing one of the worst dilemmas a woman in love would face. The author uses a variety of literary techniques to score powerful points, including symbolism, contrast, suspense, and irony. Gag Rule is entertaining, but it also offers great insights into the game of power and sex.
