“For Underdogs Only” by Kim G. Robinson is a tribute to Myron Miller, a man worth looking up to. Myron is the high school football coach in Tustin, California. The sixty-nine year old Coach has had his share of tough luck; however, he has never let that stand in his way. Just the opposite is true: he learned from the situations and came out stronger. The Coach’s theme is “Do the Right Thing and Work Hard!” The Coach certainly did the right thing; he held his players accountable or their grades and actions. That paid off: Sam Baker, Beau Bell, Chris Chester, DeShaun Foster, Matt McCoy, and Frostee Rucker are all former students/players of Coach Miller. In 2008 all six players made the NFL. If you are looking at a book about football, you may want to keep searching; this is a book of memories, inspiration and hope as well.
Many of his former students, now in their forties, share their fondest memories with the author. The chapters in this book are short but not dumb downed. It is easy to understand and read. While you can breeze through this book I suggest you take your time and ponder each lesson to be learned. It is gratifying to know there are people in this world capable of looking outside of their self and eager to place someone else’s needs before their own. This is Kim G Robinson's first book; however, I am sure this will not be her last. She is very talented. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
