FNG is a work of fiction in the military, action, and terrorist thriller subgenres. It is best suited to the mature adult reading audience owing to the use of explicit language throughout and scenes of conflict. Penned by author Benjamin Spada, this intense work introduces us to our protagonist, Cole West, who finds himself thrown into the heart of a dangerous black-ops program without any warning, training, or clue about what’s in store for him. As the newest guy on the team, Cole has enough to contend with, but then he’s conscripted to face off against a terrorist organization made up of former veterans who will stop at nothing to retaliate against a government whom they believe has failed them.
Author Benjamin Spada has crafted a high-octane thriller that will certainly please fans of both action-packed military novels and modern terrorist suspense plots. The concept of the ‘FNG’ from the title works perfectly for this novel as we find ourselves thrown in at the deep end just like Cole, and the bevy of wild and dangerous characters he encounters come at you with vivid descriptions and sharply-penned dialogue. The world moves quickly, and there’s a great sense of empathy for Cole, which allows us to root for him as he quickly starts catching up with the program and his well-honed instincts take over. The terrorist plot and the concept of the Terminal group are highly original and well-considered. Overall, I would certainly recommend FNG for fans of modern military thrillers and black-ops action novels, as this one in particular has a lot of high-quality original content that I’ve not seen anywhere else.
