Firefighters’ Busy Day! is a children’s book for young, aspiring firefighters, written in rhyme by Maria Bostian and illustrated by Chris Danger. As firefighters clean their vehicles and make sure their equipment is secure, a call comes in that a house is on fire. People look on as these firefighting heroes extinguish the blaze and save the occupants and their pets from the flames. When all is safe and under control, the firefighters return to the station in their fire truck so that they can clean their vehicles once again, making sure their equipment is secure, ready for the next call which comes in.
This delightful book about our fire heroes is well-written, showing even the youngest of children the typical day of a firefighter. Maria Bostian’s tale has shown that whether firefighters – both men and women – are at the fire station or at the location of a fire, they are always working hard to ensure that they can do their absolute best job when a fire breaks out, and that they can get to the location of the fire quickly. Although working in extreme temperatures, each firefighter is protected by their special clothing, and is well trained in making sure that the best possible outcome is achieved at all times, putting out the fire and saving all of the lives of people who are inside the location of the flames or are in close vicinity.
I enjoyed how these heroes’ daily lives are shown, as they work hard, keep fit and are ready for duty the moment a call comes in. I wholeheartedly recommend Firefighters’ Busy Day! to be read to toddlers, or for young readers to read by themselves, showing that if they are ready for the challenge some day, they too can become a firefighting hero.
