Finding Fire by K.R. Robidoux imagines a world where the elemental gods passed gifts on to humans. Of course, this can never just be a happy thing - there also has to be a faction that sees this as evil and wants to destroy any who have inherited the gifts. Kenna thinks she is just your normal 25-year-old, trying to deal with her Granny’s death, albeit badly, until she opens a letter from her Granny which unlocks more than she could image. Kenna learns the truth of her family, that she is not an only child but a quintuplet and that her parents were killed in a car accident - her father at the scene and her mother after delivering the babies. The courts refused to let Granny raise all the kids. To confuse Kenna even more, she tells Kenna they are the elemental bloodline, and that she is the last. At first Kenna is not sure what to do, but then finding her oldest brother becomes her driving plan.
The beginning of Finding Fire was a little hard to read as Kenna is just wrapping herself in sorrow and whining a great deal. Once she finds Aiden, the book gets much better to read, and I found myself liking her better; she seemed to grow up and take control of her actions a little more. There are still three more siblings out there that Kenna is wanting to find. Plus, the end of this book leaves a number of things up in the air, and so you know there has to be more books. A teaser of the second book is contained in the back of this book, and starts off with all the same players, just as they were when the book ended. This is an exciting and engaging story of lost family and family ties, and once you get past the first couple of chapters you will likely really enjoy K.R. Robidoux’s book.
