Fallen Fathers: Agents of Angels by Treena Wynes is about saving the world from an invasion from Hell. Abbadon, a demon of remarkable strength, seeks to perform a ritual that will open a portal to the underworld. The ritual requires the blood of an angel, and so Abbadon goes hunting for an angel. His prey is Barry, the main protagonist’s estranged father. Upon learning of her father’s game of cat and mouse with the terrifying Abbadon, Diamond, Barry’s daughter and a half-angel, decides to seek Barry out and help him. Her grand plan is to pose as the very human girlfriend of Tyreal, Abbadon’s son, so as to let Abbadon find her father and then swoop in to save the day. Things don’t quite go according to plan, however, as Abbadon keeps her prisoner. Will she find a way to salvage the situation or will Abaddon crush her?
The plot of Fallen Fathers: Agents of Angels is that of angels vs demons, a classic type of story that I’ve read countless times. However, the story that Treena Wynes has crafted here was unique and a breath of fresh air for me. The plot was unique and surprisingly grounded. Sure, there are angels and demons, but that’s about as far as it delves into the supernatural. The pacing was a tad bit too fast for me, but then again this book is a compact read. So I guess that can be expected, though I was surprised at the amount of quality content squeezed into those pages. Fights between characters were well choreographed and it was easy to envision them unfold as I read. Character development was on point although there wasn’t much time to develop characters - this is a sequel so these characters have probably already been expanded upon in previous books. In conclusion, this is a nice short read that is quite entertaining.
