Where will love find us? Faking It With the Grump by Kate O’Keeffe introduces us to two people at opposite ends of the country. Harper Cole is an elementary school teacher in Los Angeles. When the boyfriend she had dated since she was a senior in high school dumped her, she returned to her family in Hunter’s Creek and took a job filling in for a second-grade teacher on maternity leave at the school she had attended as a child. Christopher Young is a driven, workaholic mergers and acquisitions attorney trying to earn a promotion at his New York firm. He is unexpectedly assigned to assess a lumber mill in Hunter’s Creek. In a town with a population of 8351, Harper and Christopher would inevitably meet.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Faking It With the Grump: Second Chance Café Book 1 by Kate O’Keeffe is a lighthearted romance between two people who want to fake a romance, each for their own reasons. It’s a romance, so we know from the outset these two will eventually find happiness with each other. The fun in this book is watching two people, each pretending to be in a relationship, each developing stronger feelings for the other, and each afraid to share those feelings, certain they are not reciprocated. Who hasn’t agonized over the I-like-him-but-does-he-like-me dilemma? The characters are easily relatable and most likable. This is a feel-good book that every romance reader will enjoy.
