Faithful Servants (Rescue from the Rebellion) by Marc Curtis Little falls into the genre of historical social issues; this is a book that would appeal most to a diverse audience of young adults and adults who enjoy historical fiction and stories that take place in the sixties. The story is centered on the urban violence that occurred in 150 different cities, racism, and riots in the United States of America. The people who lived in communities affected by the violence began to work to clean up their communities. High school basketball player Nehemiah Garvey and his nationally recognized coach, Mickey Marcus, want to do their part, but their aggressive methods quickly cause discord with those close to them.
Faithful Servants (Rescue from the Rebellion) by Marc Curtis Little is a well-written book that used a fictional story to explore the urban violence of the sixties in an interesting and enjoyable manner. The cover of this book is what grabbed my attention because of its intriguing design. It made me want to read the book in order to learn more about the people featured on the cover. I personally really liked how the author spent the beginning of the book creating a background for Nehemiah Garvey by going into detail about his family, his background, and his present day life. I found the dialogue to be well written as it flowed naturally and did not sound scripted. Nehemiah Garvey was easily my favorite character and I feel like his background in sports would allow many young men to identify with him on a personal level quite easily. Overall, I found this book to be a worthwhile read that has inspired me to want to learn more about the sixties as an era of great interest.
